Sharon lives with her grandparents and 9 other of their grandchildren in one rented room in the Walukuba area of
Jinja. The children range in age from 11 to 16. Her grandfather is not working. Her grandmother is 75 years old.
Her grandmother buys and resells a local drink which she sells from the front of her house. She also recently started beading to earn more income.
Her family moved to the Jinja area from Kitgum a very long time ago because there was more opportunity in
Jinja. Her grandmother’s biggest problem is paying school fees for all the grandchildren.
Sharon attends a girls school in Jinja as a day student. She does well in school and is normally in the top 15% of the class. She likes history, religious education and geography. She would like to be a flight attendant when she grows up. Her hobbies are reading books and playing cricket at school.
She helps her grandmother with housework such mopping the house, washing utensils and clothes, and cooking. She likes traveling (in Uganda) and likes learning from others in the Wildlife Club.
Annual sponsorship cost is $650 for secondary school fees, boarding, uniforms, and basic school supplies. This amount can be paid in one lump sum, by term at $217 per term, or monthly at $55 per month. Additional optional amounts up to $300 total may be contributed during the calendar year as a special family gift.
