Alice stays in Kitgum with her sister who is 27 years old. Her sister rents two huts and cares for 3 children of her own plus Alice and one other sibling. Alice’s father was killed by the LRA in 2002 and her mother later died of malaria in 2005 leaving the three girls to take care of each other.
The family comes from Akwero which they left in 1995 because of rebel activity. But despite the move, their father was still killed.
Alice does very well in school and is normally near the top of her class. Her favorite subjects are English and math. She wants to be a doctor when she grows up because she wants to help people remain healthy. She would like to eventually become a doctor in a small clinic.
Alice is a very tall girl and loves to play netball with her friends. She is usually the most valuable player because she is so tall. Whenever she is studying or reading she is reminded of her mother who used to help her with her schoolwork. She is afraid only of “snakes”.
