Dorothy lives with her aunt, one cousin and two siblings in the Walukuba area of
Jinja. The children range in age from 12 to 18. Dorothy’s uncle died in 1998 due to an accident. Her father died in the same year.
The family came to Jinja fifteen years ago from Awere. Her aunt does beading to earn a small income. Her aunt used to raise poultry for six years until she became sick. Her health is now stabilized and she would like to begin the poultry raising again if she had at least $400 capital to start it up. Her aunt is also concerned about having enough funds to buy their subsidized rental house or they will be evicted.
Dorothy is an average student in school and especially likes physics, literature and English. She dreams of attending the university some day so she can design and make clothes. She has talent in this area. She plays volleyball at school, and also does beading and makes and designs necklaces. She belongs to the abstinence club at school.
Dorothy urgently needs 2 sponsors who can each pay $325, which is 50% of her total annual sponsorship cost for secondary school fees, uniforms and supplies. The amount may be paid in one lump sum of $325, by term at $108 per term or monthly via credit card at $27 per month. Additional optional amounts up to $300 total may be contributed during the calendar year as a special family gift.
