Aloyo Gladys lives with her mother, 3 siblings, 4 other dependents, and a child of her sister’s who died in childbirth. Her father died in the war. The family lives in a rented hut in Gangdyang village near
Kitgum.
Earlier in the war, her family lived in a village 32 miles east of
Kitgum. Her mother was abducted by the rebels and forced to do looting and carry 75 kilo bags of sorghum to Sudan. They released her mother after three weeks when she began to have convulsions.
She then moved the family near Kitgum to be safer. Her mother earns a small income by reselling grains and fruits from Kitgum in her village. She also makes beads. The family struggles to meet its daily obligations and keep the children in school. Her mother would like to be able to earn more money so that one day she could buy her own land and home.
Aloyo Gladys likes English and science. She plays netball for her school’s team, and wants to be an electrical engineer one day. She helps her family by fetching water, washing clothes and cooking.
Aloyo Gladys urgently needs a 2nd sponsor to pay $200 of her annual sponsorship cost of $400 for secondary school fees, uniforms and supplies. Aloyo Gladys has one sponsor who is paying for 50% of her school fees. However, she desperately needs a 2nd sponsor to pay the remaining 50% of school fees. The amount may be paid in one lump sum of $200, by term at $67 per term or monthly via credit card at $17 per month. Additional optional amounts up to $300 total may be contributed during the calendar year as a special family gift.
