Grace Apili
Age – 13 Grade – Secondary 1 (Boarding)

Grace lives in a rented home in the Walukuba area of Jinja with her parents, 6 siblings and 4 other nieces/nephews. She is the last born child. An older brother died of cancer in 2007. 

Her parents were originally from Anamido village in northern Uganda. They came to Jinja in 1985 when her uncle was killed by the Karamajong and all their cattle were taken. Her mother earns income from beading. She used to have a business making peanut butter but stopped when she had to use the $300 capital for the burial and transport of one son in 2007. 

Grace’s favorite subjects in school are English and Social Studies. Math is difficult for her. She is usually in the upper one third of her class grade-wise. She also enjoys singing and likes drawing pictures. She helps the family by cleaning, mopping and washing places.

Annual sponsorship cost is $650 for secondary school fees, uniforms, and basic school supplies. The sponsorship amount can be paid annually, by term at $217 per term, or monthly via credit card at $55 per month. Additional optional amounts up to $300 total may be contributed during the calendar year as a special family gift.
