Peter lives in Njeru with his parents, 3 other siblings and 2 other dependents. He is the last born child. His mother is now doing beading to earn income. His father was laid off in 2000 and has had only occasional work since then.
The family used to have a grinding machine to make peanut paste for income but it broke in 2007 and requires a major repair ($200) for which there is no money. Peter helps his family by slashing and digging.
The family has lived in the Jinja area for 10 years. They came to Jinja from Kitgum because of the war and the
Karamajong.
Peter likes physics and math. He’s in the math club at school. He is 52nd out of 200 students. Peter wants to major in computer science. He is a good athlete, playing volleyball and the long jump. He likes hip-hop music. Peter hurt his leg in the summer doing the long jump and had to wear a cast for 4 weeks.
Annual sponsorship cost is $650 for secondary school fees, uniforms, and basic school supplies. The sponsorship amount can be paid annually, by term at $217 per term, or monthly via credit card at $55 per month. Additional optional amounts up to $300 total may be contributed during the calendar year as a special family gift.
