Manuel lives with his mother and one other sibling in Jinja. They have lived in Jinja the past 6 years in a single rented room about 16 feet by 10 feet. The family originally came from Lira town in the north. They moved because of the war and raids by the
Karamajong.
Manuel’s father has abandoned the family. His mother earns a small income from rolling beads for other beaders in the group. Manuel helps his mother by also rolling beads.
Manuel is above average in school and likes English and mathematics. He would like to be a driver some day. He says he spends his free time studying.
Annual sponsorship cost is $120 for primary school fees, uniforms, and basic school supplies. The sponsorship amount can be paid annually, or by term at $40 per term. Additional optional amounts up to $300 total may be contributed during the calendar year as a special family gift.
