Marvin lives with his family in the Walukuba area of Jinja. His aunt is 60 years old and is raising 6 of her own children plus 8 dependents from her deceased sister and brother-in-law. Her husband is very old and is ill. The family is living in 2 rooms.
She has a plot where she grows some of their food. But her biggest concerns are feeding all the children and how to come up with the money for their home. Marvin helps the family by cooking and mopping.
Marvin has been sitting out of school this past year due to lack of school fees. He hopes to find a sponsor so that he can begin Secondary 1 in February 2009 when the new school year begins. He has done occasional work slashing or digging but work is difficult to find.
When in school, Marvin was usually in the top 15% of his class. He likes math and science, and hopes to be a doctor some day. He enjoys reading novels and playing soccer.
Annual sponsorship cost is $650 for secondary school fees, boarding, uniforms, and basic school supplies. This amount can be paid in one lump sum, by term at $217 per term, or monthly at $55 per month. Additional optional amounts up to $300 total may be contributed during the calendar year as a special family gift.
