Diana lives with her mother, 4 siblings and 2 other orphaned children from her late aunt and uncle. The children range in age from 8 to 22 years old. The family lives in the Bugembe area of
Jinja. Her father left the family in 1999 and has another family in another town.
Her father is threatening to sell the house where they have been staying since 1995. Her mother does distilling and beading to earn a small income for the family. The family originally came from Pader almost 20 years ago because of the war.
Diana goes to a primary school nearby where she is normally in the top 20% of her class. She likes social studies and English the best. She also plays netball at school. She helps her mother around the house by washing dishes and cooking food.
Annual sponsorship cost is $125 for primary school fees, uniforms, and basic school supplies. The sponsorship amount can be paid annually or by term at $42 per term. Additional optional amounts up to $300 total may be contributed during the calendar year as a special family gift.
