Wilfred lives with his aunt (age 50) and uncle, 10 of their children, plus 10 other orphans and dependents in a 2 bedroom (plus one sitting room and kitchen) subsidized home that they are trying to buy. The children and dependents range in age from 13 to 28.
The family came here 20 years ago from Kitgum. His uncle used to work at a nearby factory until he was let go. His aunt earns income by distilling and by selling dried moonfish at the Masese Port.
The family’s biggest problem is school fees for so many children. Some of the children are not in school due to lack of school fees.
Wilfred is normally in the upper 20% of his class at school. He especially likes social studies and science. He would like to be an engineer one day. Hen enjoys playing soccer, and helps his family by digging (maize), and cleaning the compound. He hopes that he might get a school uniform if he is sponsored.
Annual sponsorship cost is $150 for primary school fees, uniforms, and basic school supplies. The sponsorship amount can be paid annually, or by term at $50 per term. Additional optional amounts up to $300 total may be contributed during the calendar year as a special family gift.
